  • ¼ cup black beans with yellow kernels (seoritae)
  • 1 ½ cups water
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions:

  • Rinse rice and beans separately.
  • Soak beans in water for 2–3 hours (or overnight for softer texture).
  • Combine rice, soaked beans, and water in a rice cooker or pot.
  • Cook as usual and gently fluff before serving.

👉 Tip: The beans add a rich aroma, soft texture, and beautiful contrast to your rice.

Glazed Black Beans (서리태조림 · Seoritae-jorim)

A popular Korean side dish (banchan).

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup seoritae
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sugar or rice syrup
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp roasted sesame seeds
  • 2 cups water

Instructions:

  • Soak beans overnight, then drain.
  • Boil in 2 cups of water until beans are soft (about 30–40 mins).
  • Add soy sauce and sugar; simmer on low heat until the liquid thickens and beans are glossy.
  • Finish with sesame oil and sprinkle sesame seeds before serving.

Sweet Red Bean Porridge (팥죽 · Pat-juk)

A traditional comfort dish, smooth and gently sweet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup red beans
  • 4 cups water
  • ¼ cup glutinous rice flour (for thickening)
  • Sugar and salt to taste

Instructions:

  • Boil beans in water for 10 minutes, discard the first water, then refill and cook until beans are very soft (about 1 hour).
  • Mash or blend the beans, strain for smooth texture if desired.
  • Mix glutinous rice flour with a little water, then add to the bean soup to thicken.
  • Season lightly with sugar and salt.

👉 Optional: Add small rice balls (saealsim) for a chewy texture.

Sweet Red Bean Filling (단팥 · Danpat)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup red beans

Instructions:
